Fire

27 March 2014, 8pm. There was a fire at penang hill. Unfortunately, the iPad camera couldn't capture a sharp shot of the fire. It is the long, diagonal stretch of orange light in the photo. Photos are blur because of zooming in.

Chrysanthemum Tea

Last night, mum decided to make some chrysanthemum tea. She poured the chrysanthemum into a pot and added boiling water. I went into the kitchen to get something. I turned to talk to mum. Something caught my attention. There were a lot of tiny roach like bugs on the table. God knows I have phobia for bugs of any kind, especially cockroach. I told mum that there are a lot of roaches on the table. She didn't belief me. She came over to have a look. She was startled as well. She wipe the family away with a damp cloth. She mumbled, it must be from the chrysanthemum. Must pour the whole pot. She then went and took out the remainder of the dried chrysanthemum from the package. Lo and behold. The entire nation of tiny bugs was in there. I lifted the lid of the pot to have a look. There were larvae, pupa, bugs, an entire ecosystem or stages of metamorphosis in there. That really gross me out. Mum poured the entire pot of chrysanthemum tea into the sink. Guess I'll refrain from drinking dried chrysanthemum tea for a while.

Hybrid Lizard

Last night, a black lizard appeared in the kitchen. I was instructed to kill it. Hence, equipped with a can of insecticide, I walked towards the wall where the black lizard was and sprayed it with insecticide. It didn't run in fear. Instead it lifted it's tail and waved, either as a challenge or fanning the insecticide away. It then moved further up the wall. Suddenly it lost balance and fell onto the cabinet. Mum screamed and told me to spray more. So I did. But the lizard quickly went under the microwave. I bent and peek under the microwave. Before I knew it. It hopped out from under the cabinet. Yes, you read correctly and I typed correctly. The black lizard hopped instead of crawl like normal lizards do. I was instructed to kill lit with the fly swatter. So I sprayed more insecticide on it and hit it with the fly swatter. It wasn't soft like normal lizards. It was hard. After hitting it once, it remained still. I thought it was dead so I was going to pick it up with the tongs. Suddenly it moved. I was startled. I reached for the fly swatter. This time I hit the black lizard harder. It looks motionless, so I picked it up with the tongs and got rid of it. This is my first encounter with a hopping lizard. It hopped like a frog. Dark, hard skinned frizzard.

Snake

27 August 2013, 11pm. A snake appeared on the front door. I was curled up under my blanket in the living room, suffering from extreme stomach ache while holding back the urge to throw up. Then my mum shriek from behind saying there's a snake on the front door. The snake was moving towards the opened windows. I dashed out of my cocoon and grabbed the insecticide and sprayed at the windows, at the same time closing them. The snake then slithered back towards the front door. I sprayed through the door gap to prevent the snake from getting in. Mum was frantically searching for the fire brigade number. She managed to get through. The snake slithered downwards towards the ground. It was so fast. Panicked, my mum called our neighbours, asking for help, as we were all locked in the house. Even the gates were locked. She needed someone to help us unlock the gates to let the firemen in. So my neighbours suggested we go upstairs and throw the house keys down to them. Some time later, the firemen arrived. But the snake was no where to be found. They then asked us to hand them the car keys as they suspect the snake has slithered under or into the car. We handed them the car keys as well as two ( last two) cans of insecticide. The opened the car bonnet but the snake wasn't there. The then use flashlights to search under the car. They kept spraying insecticide at the car to lure the snake out. One of our neighbours also came in to help locate the snake. It was playing hide and seek with them. They even started the engine but it was still evasive. We heard them say they see it under the car but it was moving very fast. After some commotion, the managed to capture the snake. The fireman said it's a baby python and asked for a plastic bag to place the snake into. We handed them a plastic bag and the bundled the snake up. Then they left. Fortunately, they still turn up at such ungodly hour. Thank god.

Petrol

Don't you just loathe the smell of petrol? Each time I go to the petrol station, I'd wish that the tank would fill up faster so that I can breathe without inhaling that petrol smell. Last night, the house was suddenly filled with the smell of petrol. Initially I thought it was just exhaust pipe smoke from passing vehicles. But that smell persisted long after the vehicles have left. Then I got a little worried. Thinking that the car might be leaking, I went to check. But there was nothing on the floor. Mum then asked our neighbour whether they smell it. Hey, we need to find the source, whether it's coming from our house. We don't want to end up charred as a result of fire or something. Our neighbour then told us that it's the other neighbour's car that is leaking. That family didn't even bother to wash away the leaked petrol. Leaving it on the ground, for the wind to blow the smell around. For the entire night, we (us and our immediate neighbour) had to breathe in petrol. And the wind was not much of a help. Our entire house, from the front to the back smelled like it has been doused with petrol. It was so unbearable. We can't even sleep in our bedrooms. We could have ended up dead from inhaling petrol the whole night. And that leaky car neighbour just shut their door without a care in the world. As though the leak is none of their business. They could have at least leave the tap on to wash away the leaked petrol. So that the entire row of houses won't be burnt down in case someone decides to light a match or some errant firecracker lands on the spot. Such selfish and inconsiderate people. Seriously, what has the society become?

Insincere

Last night, my mum won a motorcycle in a lucky draw. The event was organised by 1Malaysia. After the event, when she went to claim her prize, the organizer told her that she couldn't take the bike back as it doesn't have battery. They then gave her a card with the motorcycle reseller's number and told her to contact them the following day. However, after the dinner, mum was down with diarrhoea since 4a.m. She wasn't able to go to the shop to "claim" the motorcycle. The neighbours kids told her in the afternoon that they saw her prize in front of the restaurant where the dinner was held yesterday. She told them that she haven't claimed the bike from the shop yet. Later in the evening, the neighbours kids told her the same thing again. This time, mum called the motorcycle shop to ask about it. They nonchalantly replied that the bike is not with them. She told them that the organizer told her to contact the motorcycle reseller today but she wasn't able to go downtown due to diarrhoea. They just brush her off by reiterating the bike is not with them. She then rushed to the restaurant to see for herself. True enough the bike was there. The restaurant owner then informed her that the motorcycle was just left precariously in the middle of the road since last night. He told the workers to shift it to the porch of the restaurant. Mum, with the help of a neighbour(the kids's mum) pushed the bike back home. Fortunately, the bike was not stolen. It was left in the middle of the road for the entire day. If the organizer is insincere in giving out prizes, don't do it. It is not like the public is begging for prizes. The only reason they showed up at the event was because the organizer went from door to door asking them to attend the dinner. And they came on the day the of the dinner itself to remind the residents of the housing estate to attend their dinner. It's only civility to show up since they invited cordially. If no one were to show up, the organizer would only end up embarrass. How does the organizer expect people's support when they are so insincere. Just so you know, the residents are not famish and can afford to feed themselves. Your dinner and prizes are not needed for them to survive. But bear in mind, your party needs their votes to survive. In future, don't conduct such insincere events.

Lucky on Labour Day

This evening, my parents attended a dinner held in conjunction with the upcoming election. They are not big into politics but attended just for fun. And lucky indeed was my mom. She won a motorcycle in the lucky draw. After all these years of hard labour, she finally got something back. Congratulations Mum.

Explosion

There was an explosion in the kitchen a little while ago. Mum was opening a can and it suddenly exploded. It was so loud that it could be heard upstairs. Never knew can food could explode. Moreover it's just a can of preserved longan.

Almost

The kitchen almost caught fire in the evening. Mum left a pot of potatoes boiling on the stove and totally forgot about them. Didn't thought that the smoky smell was coming from the kitchen. That's because people keep burning things in the open everyday. Fortunately I went into the kitchen. Otherwise we would have the fire brigade over. The result was a burnt pot with black potatoes.

Friday Night Fright

Last night was one of the most frightening event that I have encountered. Several days ago, the water heater decided to go on long service leave. But before it does so, it decided to have a memorable farewell by spewing piping hot water on one of the user ( not me). The user was startled by the steaming hot water that splashed on her when she turned on the shower. Fearing that we might be electrocuted and be sent to our maker, we have to stop using the heater in the upstairs bathroom and switch to the spare heater downstairs. The spare heater downstairs is rarely used. In fact it has hardly been used since the bathroom renovation many years back.

Anyway everything was fine for the past few days( yes the electrical shop could not dispatch someone to install the new water heater). Until that fateful Friday night ( aka last night). The first half of the shower was well. Then I washed my hair. It was fine until I was almost done rinsing my hair. I was bent with my head near the drainage hole when I spotted something at the corner of my eye. I immediately straighten up an took a better look at it. All hell broke loose.

There it was wobbling on the door pane near the drainage hole.My reflex action was: scream. I was caught in a small vicinity with a " drunk invader cockroach" butt naked and wet. I shrieked and scream until mum came to my aid. She told me to open the door. I dare not as it was right there by the door. The shower in my hand accidentally sprinkled the stupid cockroach when I scream in panic. It then hit me that the cockroach might fly at me if startled.

I dared not turn off the shower as it was my only weapon. I quickly reached for the door to unlock it to let my saviour in to my rescue. At the same time I reached for my towel. When I got hold of my towel and was about to wrap it round me I was frightened by a brownish patch ( resembling the cockroach) on the towel. I freaked out, screamed and threw the towel away and it landed near the cockroach. It slipped my mind that it's my hair clips that I clipped on the side of the towel as there was no where to place them when I washed my hair. With nothing to cover myself and stuck in the toilet with the stupid cockroach all I could do was scream and shriek in fear.

When my mum walked in and saw me with the shower in my hands and screaming she asked where it is. I pointed it out to her but she didn't see it and told me to step out of the toilet. I pointed at the direction of my towel ( which is on the floor now). She then ran upstairs to get me another towel, leaving me behind with the cockroach. Another few minutes of fear and anguish.

When she emerged with the towel, the moronic roach sauntered slowly out of the toilet. It walked slowly beside my mum's foot towards the store. I quickly wraped the towel around me and ran upstairs. Mum then sprayed the area with insecticide. Moments later she discovered 7-8 roaches emerging from their Friday night fiesta out of nowhere. That moronic roach must have been drunk and wandered into the toilet to puke.

This morning my mum discovered another batch of dead " hangover" cockroaches near that area. The past few days of heavy rain must have lead those idiots to seek shelter in human houses. Why of all places do they have to choose mine and disrupt the tranquility of my abode? Pests. Blergh. Screw you insects.

Second batch (taken with fear)

Close Call

I almost got crushed by the lift doors today. All thanks to a uncivilised, anal bitch. As usual, we waited for the lift during lunch. When the lift doors open for the first lift, it was akin to a can of sardines. Hence we waited for another lift.

After waiting for a while, the second lift finally arrived. Two of my friends stepped in. I was right behind them. When I was about to step in, the lift doors suddenly shut, almost crushing my fragile frame and face. My friend who was already in the lift quickly pressed the lift door open from the lift's side panel.

When I got in, they were whispering and shaking their heads. I found out from them that the lift doors did not go bonkers and shut itself so quickly. It was all because the girl inside the lift pressed the close button to prevent people from entering the lift. Luckily my friend was quick. Otherwise I would have been crushed.

What a rude and selfish bitch. It is hard to comprehend how people can develop such preposterous behaviour. Wonder what's her rush to get back to the 18th floor? Did she needed to shit so badly that she has to forced the lift to go at lightning speed so that she won't shit her pants?
