What's New In Penang

Several new developments are sprouting in the island that once used to resemble a turtle from birds' eye view (but now looks more like a rectangle due to reclamation).

One of them is 1st avenue shopping mall that opened on the 25 November 2010. Located near Komtar and next to Traders Hotel and Prangin Mall. Nothing much to show as there aren't many shops opened apart from Parkson. Not wanting to appear like a clown snapping photos when there is nothing much to see. It is rather miniature compared to Pavillion.

The escalators upon entering from car park. Just to show that the escalators resembles slides in theme park. Whee. Not very clear due to camera resolution.

The view of Trader's Hotel Pool from 1st Avenue carpark.

The Times Square building taken from 1st Avunue.

Apart from that, Sungai Pinang has been transformed and is hardly recognisable. This is some high rise residential building in Sungai Pinang. The building is facing a promenade that overlooks the sea (on the right). From the promenade, Penang bridge is visible (from a distance).

The new shoplot next to the high rise.

Drum roll........................Behold the first Burger King in Penang. Located in Sungai Pinang. It is so out of place and practically hidden but should be visible if swimming to Penang from mainland.

Disruption in Water Supply

We don't know what we've got until we lose it. This saying is really true and it applies to almost everything in life. Last night, the water supply at my place was cut off because of the upgrading work somewhere. Although we did receive notice regarding the water supply disruption, we didn't really feel the pinch till the water supply was turned off entirely.

It is during times like this that we tend to use water more (refer to pie chart below for the break down). For instance, we tend to use the loo more when there's scarcity of water. Prior to the cut off time, we were getting ourselves prepared for it. We brushed our teeth right after dinner. However, not long after brushing my teeth, I had an urge to have a drink and had a cup of coffee with some biscuits. Then I immediately rushed to brush my teeth again before the water supply is cut off. Mum on the other hand, started purging after dinner. It was probably due to the mangoes she consumed. She was in and out of the toilet several times before the water supply was cut and continued visiting the loo a few more times after the cut.

After all the purging, she was hungry and started eating again. She invited me to join her and so I did and ate too. Then dad jumped on the bandwagon and had instant noodles with additional ingredients. Well, there's a price to pay for eating during a water supply disruption. I had to brush my teeth for the third time within 2 to 3 hours using as little water as possible from a bottle that was meant for all of us. I also had to control my water consumption so that I don't have to frequent the toilet during the disruption.

After going through this ordeal, I can say that I truly feel for those having to live with no water supply to their homes. For us having to live a day without water supply is unbearable. Imagine those who don't have water supply in their homes. To them it's a daily ordeal. This episode has really jolted me out of my comfort zone and has ingrained in me the importance of water conservation. We should never take simple things like water for granted.

Found a chart on Google that breaks down water consumption.

See the toilet image? The activity that garners most water consumption with 26.8%.

Near Heart Attack

The internet has been a real important part of my life. I have become so dependent towards it that a moment without it makes me feel uneasy. I had a near heart attack yesterday. I was surfing the internet and all of a sudden I got cut off without prior notice. And attempts to reconnect was futile. I tried restarting my computer...-negative, turning it off and on again...-negative. The wireless function went dead and there was simply no connection. It kept appearing that there is no connection and the cable was required for a connection. Regardless of what I did there was no connection. Then I tried plugging in the cable to make a connection. Nothing happened. No connection could be made. And the worse part was the other computer too lost connection to the internet as the result of my plugging in the cable to lappie. That got me really worried as I have caused a catastrophe. No computer technician is available over the weekend. Which means no internet over the weekend. T.T

I thought my lappie is "sick" because the wireless button is not lit. Pressing the wireless button does not make it light up either. This could not be happening. Lappie is hardly a year old. Only a few months old. It is not possible that it is dying. So for the whole of today, I was deprived of the internet because I thought I have screwed up the internet connection. Then a while ago I turned on my computer to transfer some files. To my surprise, there is internet connection. How did that happened? Does this mean that the problem does not lie with my computer but the ISP itself? Screw the ISP.

Can't Breathe

I have been sneezing and blowing my nose non stop from the moment I got up today.
I tried to refrain from taking medication for the first few hours with hopes that I was able to overcome it. But after 4 hours of continuous sneezing and blowing, I was left with no choice but to swallow the medicine because my nose hurts from all that blowing. It didn't work and I continued sneezing and blowing for another 4-5 hours. Then I took the panacea, the wonder pill (a.k.a Panadol). But that did not help either. Two hours later, I took another runny nose stopper. That did not stop the runny nose either. At present, I am unable to breathe as nose is blocked. I strongly feel that being breathless is the result of taking the running nose medicine as this is not the first time I experience this ( difficulty breathing after taking the medicine). The dustbins are filled with my used tissues. Currently my nose hurts so badly.

Who Do You Want To Dress Up As For Halloween?

It's time to play dress up again. Woots!!! For the pretty ones, it really doesn't matter what they intend to dress up as. At the end of the day, they are still pretty and beautiful to look at regardless of what they wear. The hideous ones on the other hand, well, basically they save up a lot on costumes. They don't have to spend a single cent on Halloween costumes. All they need to do is just be themselves for Halloween. Muahaha. Anyway, it's more like Halloween all year round for them.

Just the other day, I saw a photo of a kid. I felt so sorry for this kid. It is seriously not his fault that he resembles Frankenstein (blame it on his parents. To be exact the mother cause she resembles Frankenstein). I think many people feel the same way for him. Cause most of them have to tell little white lies by giving comments of praise on the photo his mother proudly posted. I'm not being mean or anything but that photo of him was seriously weird. His forehead was sky high and he had duck like lips. His hair was like a few pitiful strands sprouting from his scalp. Just visualise Frankenstein. It's karma that the kid ended up the way he looks. It's really pitiful that he has to pay for his parent's misdeeds.

Okay enough of the poor kid. Anyway, if you happen to have someone whom annoys the shit out of you, this is the time for vengeance. Just tell that person you'd dress up as him/her for Halloween this year. Nuff said.

Happy Halloween.

Jaws

During my schooling days, my teeth were the envy of all my friends as they were perfectly straight. I never had braces and yet my teeth were in perfect semicircles. I could bite into jelly like a mold without leaving any uneven marks on the jelly. For those who do not know me thought that the straightness was because of braces. But it is all natural. Gift from God.

Things stated changing as I left high school and subsequently furthered my studies. My wisdom tooth started growing. The wisdom tooth on one side grew and started to push my teeth out of alignment. They are a bit crooked but still looks quite straight from far. The depressing thing now is the other wisdom tooth began to emerge lately. I am rather worried now as this tooth might push my teeth totally out of alignment and I might require braces to rectify the problem. My jaws are not big enough to accommodate all the teeth.

The headache now is to find a dentist with caliber to restore my crowning glory to it's glory days without breaking my jaw. The last time I had my tooth removed, the dentist almost dislocate my jaw. He tried removing my tooth before my gums became totally numb from the injection. After my tooth was removed, my gums couldn't stop bleeding. It was like a river of blood and I have to have my face in the sink every few minutes as my mouth became a reservoir of blood. Subsequently I had to go back to him to stop the bleeding. The dentist placed a pill into the wound and that hurt like hell. I have been traumatized since that incident. In a dilemma now. Sigh. Life.

10.10.10

Ah....let's see. What can be said of this digits. 10.10.10. As a gimmick, it was said that this day signifies perfection. According to the chinese saying, the number 10 symbolises perfection (in cantonese "Sap chuen sap mei", or in mandarin "szer quen szer may"). So upon hearing this, baffoons rush to register their marriage on this day in hopes that their marriage will be perfect. I hate to break this to them, but whether or nor your marriage is going to be perfect is dependant on the person that you choose to be with for the rest of your life and not a day per se.

These people also chose to register their marriage on this day because it's a once in a lifetime opportunity that the the numbers for the dd/mm/yy will be the same. The same was said for 08.08.08 and 09.09.09. Anyway, if you want to have the same number for the day-month-year on your marriage certificate, you can still do so for 11.11.11 and 12.12.12. If you don't register your marriage by then, you are doomed. You will be alone for the rest of your life. HAHAHAHA. I wonder why nobody said anything about 01.01.01, 02.02.02, 03.03.03, 04.04.04, 05.05.05, 06.06.06, and 07.07.07.

There was a great buzz on weddings for this date but nothing was mentioned for births and deaths. The gimmick for births could be delivering on the 10 October 2010 at 10.10 a.m/p.m.. It could have been said that babies born on this particular day would be perfect. Although we all know that a perfect baby would be dependant on the parents genes. Lousy genes will lead to lousy babies regardless of them being born on a perfect day. Hence there is no need to get feng shui consultation for the right timing of birth. Why weren't there any advertisement on the perfect death? The gimmick would be dying on the 10.10.10 would imply that you have lived a fulfilling life or born imperfect but died perfect. Point to ponder.

What Did You Call Me?!!!

When I came out from the bathroom this afternoon, I heard a beep from my phone. Upon checking my phone, I noted that I have a missed call. However, the call was from an unknown number. I thought to myself, "Well, if it's urgent the person will call back". Hence, I continued doing my stuff, that is getting dressed. A few minutes later, my phone rang again. This time my hands were covered in soap and it seem difficult in washing it off. Then the ringing stopped. I dried my hands and walked back into my room. Before I could have a look at my phone, it rang again. This time I managed to answer the call.

Me: Hello.

Unidentified caller: Mummy....

Me: (Thinking to myself, when did I become a mum?) Who are you looking for?

Unidentified caller: Oh, sorry. (in slow motion) [as though I was pulling his leg]

Caller hangs up.

Excuse me!! When did I get promoted to Mum status? What's wrong with this person? He doesn't even know his own mother's handphone number. It is fine that you can't remember you friends' number, but your family members' number?...Especially your parents!! Sheesh! Can't even tell the difference in my voice. Rather give birth to roasted pork than you (literally translated from the cantonese proverb 'Sanng kao char siew hou kor sanng lei').
