What's New In Penang

Several new developments are sprouting in the island that once used to resemble a turtle from birds' eye view (but now looks more like a rectangle due to reclamation).

One of them is 1st avenue shopping mall that opened on the 25 November 2010. Located near Komtar and next to Traders Hotel and Prangin Mall. Nothing much to show as there aren't many shops opened apart from Parkson. Not wanting to appear like a clown snapping photos when there is nothing much to see. It is rather miniature compared to Pavillion.

The escalators upon entering from car park. Just to show that the escalators resembles slides in theme park. Whee. Not very clear due to camera resolution.

The view of Trader's Hotel Pool from 1st Avenue carpark.

The Times Square building taken from 1st Avunue.

Apart from that, Sungai Pinang has been transformed and is hardly recognisable. This is some high rise residential building in Sungai Pinang. The building is facing a promenade that overlooks the sea (on the right). From the promenade, Penang bridge is visible (from a distance).

The new shoplot next to the high rise.

Drum roll........................Behold the first Burger King in Penang. Located in Sungai Pinang. It is so out of place and practically hidden but should be visible if swimming to Penang from mainland.

Mid Autumn Festival 2010

Mid Autumn Festival falls on Wednesday, 22 September 2010. Happy Mid Autumn Festival/ Happy Moon Cake Festival.

Moon Cakes for this year.

If you happened to notice there are only three in the box, well, one was eaten before I remember to snap a photo of them.

Enjoy looking at the full moon and savouring the mooncakes for the Mooncake Festival.

Just for knowledge, at present time, the mooncakes have been consumed.

* I should really get paid for helping advertise for this company.

Additional Flavouring

I was really hungry this morning but there was nothing to munch on. Hence, I decided to fill my stomach with instant noodles. I looked into the cabinet in search for instant noodles to cook. After looking through the different flavours of noodles in the cabinet, I decided to go for the 'dry' style noodle.

After cooking the noodles, I transfered the drained noodles into a plate to be mixed with the flavouring. I was about to eat it when my eye spotted something on the rim of the plate. To my horror it was a worm. I was so grossed out by that worm hence I threw the plate of noodles away. After packing the noodles in a plastic bag, I poured the bowl of water that was used to cooked the noodles into the kitchen sink. That was when I saw the other family members of the worm. There were all different sizes of worms in the sink from big to minute ones. Thankfully I didn't put that plate of cooked noodles into my mouth.

Meet Mr Worm's family members.

That tiny spck to the right in the above photo is the baby of the family.

The moral of the story is, "Don't consume noodles that have been around for a while".

Lappy Breathing Its Last

I am sadden to announce that Lappy is breathing its last. I can hardly read what's on the display anymore. There are probably many spelling errors in this entry as I can't read what on the other half of the screen. Farewell Lappy. May you rest in peace. Love you always. XOXO

The Longest Wait

The longest ever wait has finally come to an end. Wasn't as enthusiastic as I should have been. Well...probably cause of the wait and somehow as time passes by, other things get priority over this. Or perhaps I have moved on after the long wait. Finally, this chapter of life can be closed. All that is left of this chapter are memories of things and people that used to be part of my life.

Down memory lane. A glimpse of a place where I spent most of my time at, once upon a time in my life.

I toiled hard and I can look back with pride to say that I worked for what I own today and not leeched my way through university. Every achievement that I obtain is covered in my sweat and blood.

After over a year long wait and battle, our convocation finally eventuate. Not to mention I spent a bomb for this. And I have to say, the light refreshment served at the end of the event was indeed really light. There wasn't enough finger food to feed the crowd that turned up for the event. I hardly had anything and indirectly "fast" from morning till evening. On top of that, I fell sick after the event.

As for the flowers, well, they withered two days after the event. The flowers weren't cheap and yet they couldn't last long enough to bloom a little more. Next time, I am going to buy crystal flowers. Then they wouldn't wither.

Kitten II

The kitten that mysteriously vanished yesterday reappeared at my compound this afternoon. Both mother and kitten were hiding in the drain when I came back from lunch today. The mother was feeding the kitten then. When she saw us, she fled, leaving the kitten behind. Hence, I took the opportunity to snap some photos.

The kitten seemed really frightened today. It kept evading me when I tried to take it's photo.

A close up of the kitten to show the colour of the kitten's eyes. It has blue eyes.

Two Sides of a Burger

Once upon a time, someone who really loves fish created a different way of eating fish. The person de-boned the fish and deep-fried it. This person then put the deep fried fish into a bun. Whala .....the Fillet-o-fish was born. Over the years, this burger has transformed into various shapes and sizes. It was once bigger than my face and bigger than my hands could hold that it had to be halved. That was long ago. Actually not that long ago. The big bun used to be wrapped in a piece of blue paper but now has been framed in a box.

Now I have outgrown the burger. See my hand is bigger than the burger. Or has the burger shrunk? It is so cute. It deserves a place in the miniature museum along with other lilliputian items.

Donuts

There is a new craze in town. Everybody is going dodo over donuts. Since this shop opened its doors, it has been filled with long queues. Throngs of people swarm the outlet, eager to have the experience of tasting donuts. The intensity of their eagerness might lead them to camp outside the shop if they have to. These people are diagnosed with the "new loo" syndrome. The symptom of the syndrome is whenever a new shop opens, it will be packed. But after a while, the craze fades and so does the business. For the moment, the craze appears to stay.

To get to the core of the craze is to get hands on. Hence I got hold of a box of donuts. The design of the box reminds me of the backdrop of my blog. See the similarity?

The donuts come in different colours and there are a variety of different flavours to choose from. The donuts that make the cut.

From left to right.
Top row: Chocolate, Kiwi and Durian.
Bottom row: Cherry, Chocolate-cappuccino and Cheese.

I don't remember the fancy donut names so I am just naming the flavours. The Cherry flavoured donut is lovely. The sourish cherries neutralised the sweetness of the donut although the donut itself was not really sweet. The Cheese donut was lovely too. It has a nice blend of sweet and salty. The appearance of the Durian donut caught my attention. It stood out amidst the other rainbow coloured ones. Its appearance reminded me of a blow fish. However, it tastes so-so only. The Chocolate-cappuccino donut was also so-so only. The Chocolate donut was ok. Overall, Big Apple did a better job than the other existing flavoured donut shops because Big Apple donuts are less sweet.

Christmas Wrap Up 2007

Every year, the malls will follow a theme in decoration for festivals. The theme for this year's Christmas decoration was to super size things. One mall used blown up toy soldiers whilst another used super white several storey high, spiral Christmas tree. All for the sake of Christmas joy.

New Phone

The phone that I recently won.

Closer view of it.
